Sellaronda: how to get there easily from Alpstay Hotels in the Dolomites

Find out how to get to the Sellaronda from Hotel Acadia Mountain Home, Smart Hotel Saslong and Chalet Hartmann in Val Gardena: guide and useful tips.

In the heart of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, there is a route that most skiers dream of completing at least once in their lifetime. And I am not talking about a single ski run, but about a true ski circuit that loops around the Sella massif. Yes, I am referring to the famous Sellaronda.

Also known as the “Tour of the Four Passes,” this one-of-a-kind ski carousel that connects four Ladin valleys (Val Gardena, Val Badia, Val di Fassa, and Arabba) through an impeccable network of slopes and lifts stretching nearly 44 km. According to many, it is one of the most scenic and spectacular ski circuits in the entire Alps.

One of its distinctive features is that it can be skied in two directions: clockwise (orange signage) or counterclockwise (green signage).

But let’s move on to the question you are probably asking yourself now: “How do I reach the Sellaronda from my hotel?” That is exactly what I am here to explain: how to access the Sellaronda depending on which Alpstay Hotels property you are staying at. At the end, you will also find some useful tips to help you tackle the Sellaronda at its best.

From the Hotel Acadia Mountain Home directly onto the Sellaronda

If you are staying at Hotel Acadia Mountain Home, you have officially hit the jackpot when it comes to the perfect location for reaching the Sellaronda. Here, the keyword is ski-in & ski-out, which in simple terms means: “I have breakfast, get dressed and I’m already on the slopes.” In fact, right next to the hotel you will find the Nives ski lift, which connects to the Dantercepies gondola: the official starting point of the Sellaronda (orange route).
Alternatively, if you prefer to ski the Sellaronda counterclockwise (green route), Hotel Acadia Mountain Home is just a five-minute walk from the center of Selva di Val Gardena. From there, you can take the Ciampinoi gondola and ski comfortably to Plan de Gralba, another access point to the circuit.

Hotel highlights for the Sellaronda:

  • Hotel Acadia Mountain Home is a ski-in & ski-out property, which basically means that it is located directly on the slopes.
  • Hotel Acadia Mountain Home has direct access to the Sellaronda via the Nives ski lift, which connects to the Dantercepies gondola.
  • Hotel Acadia Mountain Home is just a short walk from the center of Selva di Val Gardena and the Ciampinoi gondola.
From the Smart Hotel Saslong to the Sellaronda

If you are staying at Smart Hotel Saslong, you were not only lucky with the breakfast buffet (iconic in my opinion, my favorite part), but also with its strategic location. Here, you can safely forget about your car, as the ski bus stops are literally right in front of the hotel. And ski bus tickets? Alpstay Hotels will conveniently send them to you by email. From here, you have two options to reach the Sellaronda:

  1. If you want to be on the slopes as quickly as possible, take the ski bus for one stop and get off at the S. Cristina Municipio stop (about a 4 minute ride). From there, take the Monte Pana lift and ski down to Plan de Gralba to join the green route.
  2. If you prefer to enter the carousel directly, take the ski bus to Selva di Val Gardena and head to the Dantercepies gondola (orange route).

Hotel highlights for the Sellaronda:

  • Ski bus stops directly in front of Smart Hotel Saslong, providing quick access to the main lift systems.
  • The ski buses run every 10-15 minutes at Smart Hotel Saslong.
  • Guest Passes provided by Alpstay Hotels for the use of public transportation.
From Chalet Hartmann to the Sellaronda

If, instead, you are staying at Chalet Hartmann, you have chosen the warmth and tranquility of a home-like atmosphere, with the privilege of enjoying it in Ortisei. In this case as well, you have two options for reaching the Sellaronda:

  1. You can use the Chalet Hartmann’s shuttle service, which takes you directly to the Saslong area. From there, simply ski to Plan de Gralba to enter the green route.
  2. Alternatively, you can take the ski bus from the stop next to the chalet and travel to Selva di Val Gardena, where you can board the Dantercepies gondola and access the Sellaronda directly.

Hotel highlight for the Sellaronda:

  • Chalet Hartmann offers a shuttle service to three of the main lift systems, including Saslong-Ruacia: an excellent starting point for the Sellaronda.
  • Ski bus stops are located right next to the Chalet Hartmann, with easy access to the main lifts.
  • Ski buses run every 10–15 minutes near Chalet Hartmann.
  • Guest Passes provided by Alpstay Hotels for the use of public transportation.
Useful Tips
  • All ski areas of the Sellaronda are part of the Dolomiti Superski region. This means all slopes are interconnected and accessible with a single ski pass, which can also be purchased online on the official Dolomiti Superski website.
  • Completing the full Sellaronda loop takes an average of about six hours, including lift rides and breaks. Along the route, you will find numerous mountain huts and refreshment stops, perfect for taking a break.
  • The golden rule is to start early. Ideally, you should be on the slopes by 10:00 a.m., giving you plenty of time to complete the circuit and return calmly to your starting point. Keep in mind that the slopes close at 5:00 p.m.
  • Download the map of the Sellaronda.
  • Attention: in case of bad weather, some lifts may close. Before setting off, it is always advisable to check the lift status on the official channels. You can also check the status at the following link: https://www.dolomitisuperski.com/en/live-info/lifts
